How Do I....
Obtain A Repeat Prescription?
If you have a repeat prescription (i.e. you take regular medication) you will be given a computer-generated request slip. Repeat medication can be ordered in one of the following ways:
• Fax your request slip to 01423 523591 after 1300hrs.
• Post your request slip (if you are a non-dispensing patient you can enclose a stamped addressed envelope and we will post the prescription back to you).
• Electronically by registering at reception.
• Deliver it by hand.
If medication is required urgently, please ring the practice on 01423 566636 (or 0845 056 8060 when the surgery is closed).
Dispensing patients (ie those patients whose medicines are dispensed by the practice) can collect their medication directly from the dispensary or arrange for it to be delivered to a branch surgery call 01423 523591 between 1100hrs and 1300hrs daily.
Non-dispensing patients can arrange with a chemist for their prescription to be collected so that the drugs can be collected directly from the chemist shop (ask at reception for details).
The practice asks for two full working days’ notice for repeat prescriptions due to the large volume we are required to process. The practice issues an average of 350 prescriptions daily, of which 40% are for our dispensing patients. All these prescriptions require to be processed by doctors and staff; therefore it is not possible to do this in less than the two working days we ask for.
Waste medicines - it is estimated that 10% of all prescribed medicines are ultimately unused and therefore wasted each year within North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust area, at a cost of approximately £11 million. The trust believes that limiting the amount of drugs prescribed at any one time is likely to reduce the potential for wastage. Limiting the amount of drugs in a patient’s home may also reduce the risk for confusion or accidental ingestion by children.
