Non-NHS ServicesThe NHS does not provide certain services such as private sick notes, insurance claims forms, passport photo verification, medical examinations to establish insurance risks or fitness for activities and some travel vaccinations. These services usually involve provision of information, which is not necessary for your health care, to third parties such as employers, insurance companies, regulatory authorities, etc. Charges are made in line with BMA recommendations where allowed. Otherwise we charge a professional rate comparable to accountants, solicitors etc. Private medical examinations are not performed during normal surgery hours and special appointments must be made through reception. An up-to-date pricelist is on display in reception.
Hospital SpecialistsAs you know, the doctor will refer you to see a hospital specialist if you require investigation or treatment not available in Primary Care. A new referral and appointment system called Choose and Book is currently being run for most hospital consultants and clinics. If you are referred to a consultant using the new system we will be able to send the relevant parts of your health information from our computer records to the hospital electronically. This will ensure secure and confidential transfer of the information from your doctor to the hospital clinician who will care for you as a result of this referral. This information will be stored electronically. This new development will also provide you with an appointment reference number, enabling you to contact the hospital and book an appointment date any time which is convenient to you and your family. When a decision is made to refer you to the hospital, we will give you a letter with instructions on how to make your appointment. Further details about Choose and Book are available in a leaflet which is available at our reception desk. Help can usually be provided at outpatient clinics for those with special needs, including impaired vision, hearing or language difficulties and translation services. Please let your doctor know if you will need assistance in any way.
Patient Participation GroupThe group was established to enable and encourage our patients to become more involved with the service we aim to provide. The group currently meets quarterly. If you would like to become involved please contact the practice manager.
Complementary Therapy SuiteComplementary therapists use the first floor at Pannal. The therapists work independently of the surgery and the services are not available on the NHS but the therapists can often help with many conditions. Full details are available on the complementary therapy notice boards at Leeds Road Surgery and Pannal Surgery.
