Nurse Clinics

The practice nurse clinics can be accessed by the patient through reception. Please state what your appointment is for to ensure that the correct time is allocated for the appointment required.

The nurses run specialist clinics for patients who suffer from asthma, diabetes and heart disease. They also offer screening (including cervical smears), routine vaccinations, travel advice, health promotion and a telephone advice surgery. The practice nurses are also trained to deal with wound/ulcer dressings, blood tests, suture removal and general nursing advice.

District Nurses

The district nurses mostly care for people in their own home. They carry out all types of nursing care including help and support for patients and carers.

Midwives

The midwives see patients who are pregnant or have recently given birth. The practice offers ante and postnatal care, involving the GPs and an attached community midwife. Postnatal advice and support are offered to mothers and newborn babies by our GP's, the midwife and the health visitors who are accessible through local Surestart centres..

Practice Counsellor/Mental Health Link Worker

Patients with emotional problems can be referred by the doctor.

Physiotherapist

Patients can be seen both in the practice and at the hospital as appropriate.

Test Results

Please call between 14:00 and 17:00 to enquire about your test results as our reception staff will have more time to deal with your request between these times.

It is the patient’s responsibility to check on the result of any test organised by the doctor by telephoning reception between 1400hrs and 1700hrs one week after the test unless told otherwise. 

Please remember that your doctor may have requested several different tests on the same sample, in which case the results may take different times to process. Please try to be patient; if we get a result needing urgent attention we will contact you promptly, so do ensure we have your current correct contact details.

Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

Non-NHS Services

The NHS does not provide certain services such as private sick notes, insurance claims forms, passport photo verification, medical examinations to establish insurance risks or fitness for activities and some travel vaccinations. These services usually involve provision of information, which is not necessary for your health care, to third parties such as employers, insurance companies, regulatory authorities, etc. 

Charges are made in line with BMA recommendations where allowed. Otherwise we charge a professional rate comparable to accountants, solicitors etc. Private medical examinations are not performed during normal surgery hours and special appointments must be made through reception. An up-to-date pricelist is on display in reception.

Hospital Specialists

As you know, the doctor will refer you to see a hospital specialist if you require investigation or treatment not available in Primary Care. A new referral and appointment system called Choose and Book is currently being run for most hospital consultants and clinics. If you are referred to a consultant using the new system we will be able to send the relevant parts of your health information from our computer records to the hospital electronically. This will ensure secure and confidential transfer of the information from your doctor to the hospital clinician who will care for you as a result of this referral. This information will be stored electronically. 

This new development will also provide you with an appointment reference number, enabling you to contact the hospital and book an appointment date any time which is convenient to you and your family. When a decision is made to refer you to the hospital, we will give you a letter with instructions on how to make your appointment. Further details about Choose and Book are available in a leaflet which is available at our reception desk.

Help can usually be provided at outpatient clinics for those with special needs, including impaired vision, hearing or language difficulties and translation services. Please let your doctor know if you will need assistance in any way.

Complementary Therapy Suite

Complementary therapists use the first floor at Pannal. The therapists work independently of the surgery and the services are not available on the NHS but the therapists can often help with many conditions.
